You’ve packed up your blanket, your water bottle and your tablet to go to the park for an afternoon of sun and surfing (the web). But you get there and “Rats!” No internet connection. What can you do?
Luckily, there are a few ways that you can get free wi-fi no matter where you are.
1. A quick and easy way to scan your area for the closest hotspots is through a free phone app called WeFi. WeFi lists over 200 million wi-fi hotspots around the world. So, you’ll never have to go too far to find a connection for your tablet or laptop.
2. Your cable company is the next option to consider. Depending on your provider, you might already have access and not even know it. Cablevision, Time Warner, Comcast, Cox and Bright House offer 250,000 free wi-fi hotspots in metropolitan areas for qualified customers. For more info, visit your provider’s wi-fi home page or download their free wi-fi finder app.
3. Another method is tethering. This turns your smart phone into a portable wi-fi hotspot. Most smartphones have this feature already built in. To activate it, go into your settings and activate our personal hotspot option. Once it is set, your phone will appear as an available wi-fi hotspot on your tablet or laptop. Be sure to check your data plans as tethering can use it up rather quickly.
So if you are out and about and need an internet connection, use these tips, you’ll be able to find a free connection anytime, anywhere.
