Perhaps Virginia once wasn't truly a land of hobbits, but it was the only colony broken into shires at one point. In 1634, the General Assembly decided the state should be divided into eight of these Tolkienian territories, named Accomac, Charles City, Charles River, Elizabeth City, Henrico, James City, Warwick River and Warrosquyoake (war what? Later became the Isle of Wight). Someone came to his senses a few years later, and the word "county" was put into effect.
We are quite proud to be a Virginia company, and what better way to celebrate this than by celebrating Virginia!
