Probably the most popular mineral mined in Virginia is gold. Gold occurs in small amounts throughout a large portion of the Piedmont and Blue Ridge Provinces. The first lode deposit was discovered in Virginia in 1806 at the Whitehall mine, located 1.5 miles northwest of Shady Grove Church in the western part of Spotsylvania County. Other popular minerals found in Virginia include Amazonite, a green blue stone occasionally used as a gemstone and found predominately in Virginia near the town of Amelia, as well as hematite, mica, and pyrite - more commonly referred to as "Fools Gold." If you want to mine for gems, there are two options in Virginia: Morefield Gem Mine and Lucky Lake Gem & Mineral Mine.
We are quite proud to be a Virginia company, and what better way to celebrate this than by celebrating Virginia!
