"Love is like the measles. The older you get it, the worse the attack." - Rainer Maria Rilke

With the measles so much in the news of late, we thought we'd share with you an early proclamation made in Virginia in 1693 by then Governor Edmund Andros for a “day of Humiliation and Prayer” due to a measles outbreak that was devastating the colony. Today, vaccination rates vary by region and community, but overall Virginia ranks toward the bottom of the list of children with at least one MMR vaccine at only with 88.6%, placing The Commonwealth 45th out of the 50 states plus the District. California, where the highest number of outbreaks has occurred this year, is ranked 40th at 90.7%.
