The first free public school in America was in Hampton, Virginia. Started in 1634 by Benjamin Syms, the Syms-Eaton school served Hampton, Elizabeth City and Poquoson. Students were allowed to attend regardless of family wealth. When the wealthy took advantage of this a little too much, the school restricted access to the poor only.
We are quite proud to be a Virginia company, and what better way to celebrate this than by celebrating Virginia!
