Of the 386 registered carousels in the United States (per the National Carousel Association), 10 are in Virginia. Seven are classic wood carousels, and 3 are wood and metal. The oldest dates to 1912 and is at Bundoran Farm in North Garden, Virginia. It is a horse powered carousel for children. The carousel at Busch Gardens traveled around the U.S. for over 50 years, was abandoned, and then found in 1973 in Dallas. Roy Herschell & 14 craftsmen restored it in 6 months and it found its permanent home in Williamsburg. For a list of these carousels, visit this link: http://carousels.org/USACensus/census.pl
July 25th is National Carousel Day. A fine day for a trip to see this beauty!
