If you really want to lend a hand, lend an arm!

January is National Blood Donation Month. In Virginia, healthy adults who are at least 16 years old, and at least 110 pounds may donate about a pint of blood – the most common form of donation – every 56 days, or every two months. Females receive 53 percent of blood transfusions; males receive 47 percent. The average transfusion is 3 pints. Only about 9% of Virginians have the universal blood type of O negative, with O positive being the most prevalent. Even your dog can donate blood to save another dog. So if you or Fido can spare a pint (you have 10), please give so others may live.
