According to "captoldtimer", a retired Virginia firefighter, Richmond's first, fully funded and full time fire department was started on October 25, 1858. Norfolk has the second full time, fully funded station that opened on December 15, 1871. Cincinnati, Ohio had the first in the country which opened in 1858. At last count, there are 550 fire stations in Virginia. In 2014, these brave men and women responded to over 834,000 calls (fire, emergency aid, accidents and cats in trees). 607 firefighters were injured while on duty, but thankfully none were lost last year (VDFP).
We are quite proud to be a Virginia company, and what better way to celebrate this than by celebrating Virginia!
