"And all the Hoos down in Hooville...."

Hooville, C'ville, or more formerly, the City of Charlottesville. Home of the University of Virginia, Hoos in Hooville are plentiful. C'ville is often used on envelopes when addressing cards and letters as it is universally understood (with zip code clarification).

Monasukapanough was the original name given to the area that encompasses modern day Charlottesville. The city was founded in 1762 and named after the British Queen Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the wife of King George III.

There is a tourist slogan used by the area's bureau that sums up this beautiful part of The Commonwealth and let's travelers know that a trip to Charlottesville encompasses all of the best of the State: "So Very Virginia"." If you are a mountain lover, this slogan is spot on!
