Are you one of the 204,800 Virginians diagnosed with Diabetes? If you live in one particular county, you are more likely to have been diagnosed than any other county in the state.
According to the CDC, 3,869 residents of Petersburg (which is one of 38 independent cities in the state considered county equivalents by the U.S. Census Bureau), or 13.9% of the population have been diagnosed with diabetes.
Interestingly enough, Diabetes appears to be a greater problem in the South. None of the 18 states that top the ranking are west of the Dakotas and Nebraska or northeast of West Virginia. Virginia's ranking is 16.
Must be all that good Southern home cooking! Or, Southerners are just naturally sweeter by nature.
